Tree Health

|

To be able to care for trees we must be able to analyse their state of health. Unfortunately on many occasions it is not the cause of a problem that is recognised and treated but the effect it has upon the tree.

There has been and always will be a lot of research undertaken into the health of trees. This often results in new theories being proposed and existing best practice or knowledge being questioned, it would therefore be impossible and impractical for me to try and summarise this in any detail. I will explain how a trees defence works and summarise some basics to help you identify/prevent the decline of a trees health. I strongly recommend that if you are in any doubt or have a suspect tree consult an expert (and don’t be afraid to get a second opinion!).

“Trying to treat a sick tree
that you do not understand
is the same as
trying to start a Rolls Royce
by hitting it with a
sledge hammer.”

Prevention verses cure

As with many things in life prevention is easier than the cure. With trees this can, to a certain extent, be accomplished by knowledge and good tree care practises. These should not act in any detrimental way on the tree or its environment and be conducted so as to ensure that the trees health is the primary concern.
